Traveler’s Notebook – MIDORI

Traveler’s Notebook is something we have started to take care with love for the last 18 months. – Since we became the distributor of MIDORI brand.  However, before that, there was a Traveler’s Notebook which I used to note down my moments, and life stages, and travel.  It was not love,  because,  for me, it was my paths – and myself.  When I travel, it is often the time to think of life, and note down thoughts that change my future, this traveler’s notebook was there through out it.

I saw it in Maruzen in front of Tokyo station in early 2007.

I was wondering around browsing through the store and I saw it.  One shelf of an ally up too high for me was dedicated to this whole series. I tip toed and reached up…I took interest and bought it casually with few refills. The zipper pockets and card files. – Never imagined this would become such a special notebook which I will write down the next destination to live with my husband, and I will introduce to many of those just like me wondering in the store in Paris.

Since then, it has been with me. Whole six years.

I saw that it became more and more popular among many people…but for me it was casual and usual. Nothing special.

I saw that they released a limited edition.

But I never took interest in them, because I was happy with mine.

So here it is..it has been to Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Nigata, Tottori, Tokushima, Nagoya, Osaka, Okayama, Fukushima, Okayama, Matsuyama, Paris, La Baule, Nice, Lyon, Val D’isere, Aupes, Marseilles, Normandie, London, Buenos Aires, San Francisco, New York, Montreal, Florence, Milan, Torino, Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Belgrade, Budapest, Vienna,  Zagreb, Brac…and many places deep in my heart and brain.

Not many things around me are this old always Traveling with me to come to think of it! – and I travel quite a lot. So, there you go. I am with this little one quite a lot.

I now love this little guy that’s always with me. And WE love and care for all the new ones coming out waiting to become the “ONE” for many others.

Can your dog do this? maybe…but these little animals can too!

When these small animals can hold your important mails, your home keys and few more other things…one must think, “Look at these hard working little animals!”  All around the world, you will see magnets with city names that simply decorate the empty surface of your fridge, to hold whatever important, non-important pieces of paper, but this one…is working. I mean, really they look like they are working!!  You can count on keeping the most important letters, school calendars, and pictures of your grand-daughters and kids of your friends, but also to hang small rubber bands, and keep your keys…I was surprised. They are mighty!

Made by Midori : Animal Magnets, sent over from Tokyo. They apparently come in various animal types.

Papelera Palermo

Far far away from Tokyo Japan, there is a beautiful center of handmade paper. The existence of such boutique proves to us that the same spirit lives in the minds of people in Buenos Aires. Then again, reminding us of the ubiquitous desire of people to be with paper and feeling joy through the use of paper and jotting down ideas and thoughts, no matter where we are, and which language we use.

Palermo is like the Daikan-yama of  Tokyo, Soho of New York, and Marais of Paris…sunny hot summer days fills the months of February.

Travel Factory

After the opening, we got more news regarding the traveler’s notebook and the special products that can be obtained in this Traveler’s factory. It is a place where you go to enjoy the creation of your traveler’s notebook, and to feel right at home in the middle of Nakameguro for those of you who love the product, for those of you who have a FREE SPIRIT!

Then again, the events they are holding in this small hide out is amazingly advanced. Have you ever heard of a Traveler’s Viking?! Basically, you go in, take a tray and a plate, pay for the “Buffet” (notebook) fee of 1050 yen, and they give you an empty cover of your choice. Then, you go upstairs and choose from all the various different papers, envelope pages, to construct your own spiral ring notebook.

Merci!

July 12th, 2011 § 0 comments § permalink

Nope.

It’s not that I felt grateful. That’s not why it’s “Merci” but it’s because it’s a store that holds unique stationery. Now take a look at this entrance!!!  Mysteriously? populated by this un-known rather cute vehicle.

Let me guess… The owner rode it to do a world hunt for unique design? The store is full of goods that inspires earthy, simple lifestyle.

The store is a beautiful concept life style accessory museum. It holds clothing, life style accessories, perfumes, bicycles,  linens, stationery, all kinds of things from all around the world that capture your attention. The owner successfully sold off her “Bon Point” mega chain for infant fashion, and used the money to establish this concept store, which sends all profits to charity. People pay so much attention to what Merci have on display and know participants in the industry check out the store to keep up with the trend. The 3 weekly theme run events keep layouts fresh.

From the little I could see it looks like they are scandinavian design. Too simple for my taste but what a location!!!! It is in the middle of young fashion and design concept shop area of Paris. Lovely products shine even more when they are displayed with Lamy pens and Lyra crayons and pencils.

Lovely shop to wonder in…hmmm but just something missing. Wonder what that could be….

Notebook Lovers

Notebooks such as these are gifts from my friends who locate them in various places in their home town around the world. They hold charm as if they were shining sea shells found on a long stroll at the beach.

From left, the two are from Florence, the very right coming from UK.

Most probably, this will be a collection notebook, and I may not use it for daily purpose. They are just too nice to be used…

Leather and stationery can not be separated…fine leather crafting and stationery often go hand in hand and that’s why, a show window like this from MORABIDO capture my attention.

Florentine logos on a note brings a special charm…

You know…when you have to send a note to your neighbors, or your professor, your casual friend, you want to express nice intentions not just with words but with the whole act of sending a note.

In fact, today with e-mails, this may not be too necessary, but let’s say you have a nice neighbor and sending them an e-mail feels a little silly,  but trying to catch them coming out of their door, is not practical.  So, I still have some people around me who appreciate note sending, or posting a memo on the door or exchange of goods I need to deliver, etc.

This particular design works for all, I mean ALL kinds of occasions and it leaves a very positive note. The symbol resembles the “coat of arms”, but it is mostly used as nice decoration.  Not as heavy and valuable as the thick cards in envelope, but a lot nicer than the “post it”s.  Also, the medieval emblem gives a retro touch which fits perfectly with the act of writing, but not too ancient as in papyrus with bird feathers.

It may not be for some gentlemen given the decor. So I will have to come up with something equivalently nice unisex. Let’s see…
